Directed masturbation and the treatment of primary orgasmic dysfunction.

The efficacy o f directed masturbation as an adjunct to the treatment o f primary orgasmic dysfunction was evaluated. The directed masturbation procedure consisted o f a gradual series o f assignments that were to be practiced by the patient. The test o f the effectiveness o f directed masturbation was conducted with three couples who had not benefited from a sexual treatment program modeled after that o f Masters and Johnson. The results indicated that directed masturbation holds promise as an effective adjunct to sexual counseling.
